Qualifier Event Rules

Bags at Sea is a cornhole tournament series where local one-day qualifier events give teams the chance to compete for cruise cabin prizes. Division winners earn a spot on the official Bags at Sea Championship Cruise and compete onboard for cash prizes, trophies, and bragging rights. Every event is professionally run, Scoreholio-powered, and designed to deliver a great experience for players at every level.

Event Overview

  • Bags at Sea qualifier tournaments are competitive, organized, and fun for all skill levels.
  • Each event awards cruise prizes to the division winner, who advances to the Bags at Sea Championship Cruise.
  • Events consist of two divisions: Competitive (experienced/league players) and Social (casual players and newcomers).
  • Players must compete as the registered team that checked in at the event.
  • All participants receive a Bags at Sea swag bag at check-in.

Prize Structure

The following prizes are awarded per division at each qualifier:

1st Place Cruise cabin prize β€” earn a spot on the Bags at Sea Championship Cruise and compete onboard for cash prizes, trophies, and ultimate glory.
2nd Place Golden Ticket β€” free entry to any future Bags at Sea qualifier event. Non-transferable.
3rd & 4th Place Semi-finalists earn $20 credit toward a future qualifier plus priority registration access before the general public.
All Players Bags at Sea swag bag provided to every registered player at check-in.

Once a team wins a cruise cabin, they may not win another cabin for the same cruise. Cruise prizes are subject to cruise line policies and availability. Onboard tournament locations and schedules may vary based on ship operations.

Check-In & Player Responsibilities

  • Teams must check in at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Players must confirm their division (Competitive or Social) during check-in.
  • All players must be registered in the Scoreholio app before the tournament begins. Staff will be available on-site to assist.
  • Late arrivals may forfeit their first match at the discretion of the tournament director.
  • All players are responsible for monitoring their match assignments via Scoreholio and being ready when called.
  • Check-in closes at the time posted in your registration confirmation email. Teams not checked in by this time may be removed from the bracket.

Scoreholio & Bracket Management

  • Bags at Sea uses Scoreholio for all bracket management, live scoring, and board assignments.
  • Download the free Scoreholio app before the event. Search for the event name when you arrive and check in.
  • Match results are reported through Scoreholio. Both teams must confirm the score before submitting.
  • Players can follow their bracket, upcoming matches, and board assignments in real time through the app.
  • In the event of a scoring dispute, play should pause and the tournament director must be notified immediately.

New to Scoreholio? No problem β€” staff will be on-site to walk you through it. It takes about 2 minutes to set up.

Tournament Format

  • Events use a double-elimination format unless otherwise announced prior to the event.
  • Games are played to 21 points, win by 2.
  • Both divisions run simultaneously. Bracket finals for each division will be held at the end of the event.
  • The tournament director reserves the right to adjust the format based on team count, time, or venue conditions.
  • Players will be notified of any format changes before play begins.

Court & Gameplay Rules

  • Players must throw from behind the front edge of the board at all times.
  • Teams alternate throwing four bags per round.
  • Standard cancellation scoring applies: bags in the hole = 3 points; bags on the board = 1 point.
  • Fouls or foot faults may result in the bag being removed from play at the discretion of the tournament director.
  • Bags that touch the ground before landing on the board are considered dead bags and are removed from play.
  • Regulation cornhole board distance standards apply.

Equipment

  • Official Bags at Sea boards and bags are provided for all matches.
  • Players may not substitute personal equipment unless explicitly approved by tournament staff.
  • Any equipment issues must be reported to tournament staff immediately and before a match begins.

Divisions

  • Competitive Division: Recommended for players with a Scoreholio rating of 6 PPR or higher, or those who regularly compete in organized tournaments.
  • Social Division: Perfect for casual players and anyone looking for a relaxed, fun, and friendly competitive experience.
  • Division selection is made at registration. The tournament director reserves the right to reassign teams if skill levels are clearly mismatched.
  • Teams wishing to switch divisions after registration must contact events@bagsatsea.com before the event. Division switches on event day are at the director's discretion.
9.

Sportsmanship

  • Respect for opponents, staff, spectators, and venue is mandatory at all times.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct including verbal abuse, intimidation, or destruction of property may result in warnings, point penalties, or removal from the event.
  • Alcohol consumption must follow venue rules and all applicable local regulations.
  • Tournament director decisions are final. Arguing with or disrespecting the tournament director will not be tolerated.
  • We are all here to have fun. Play hard, play fair, and represent the Bags at Sea community well.

Cancellations & Credits

  • All registration fees are non-refundable.
  • Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the event start time are eligible for a full credit toward any future Bags at Sea qualifier.
  • Cancellations made inside 48 hours are not eligible for credit. We may make exceptions at our discretion if we are able to backfill your spot from the waitlist.
  • To cancel your registration, email events@bagsatsea.com with your order number and team name.
  • Credits are non-transferable, have no cash value, and must be used within 12 months of issue.
  • Golden Ticket holders must contact events@bagsatsea.com to redeem their free entry. Golden Tickets are non-transferable and have no cash value.
  • Solo player registrations are accepted on a best-effort basis. Bags at Sea will attempt to pair solo players but cannot guarantee a match.
11.

Weather & Venue Conditions

  • Outdoor events may be adjusted or relocated due to weather conditions.
  • Event format or court locations may change to ensure player safety and fair play.
  • Players will be informed of any adjustments by the tournament director on the day of the event.
  • Events will only be cancelled in extreme circumstances. Registered players will be notified as early as possible via email.

Disputes

  • If a dispute occurs during a match, play should pause immediately and the tournament director must be notified.
  • Director rulings will resolve all scoring or rule disagreements. All rulings are final.
  • Repeated disputes or refusal to follow rulings may result in disqualification from the event.
  • Score discrepancies must be raised before the next match begins. Retroactive score changes will not be considered.

Media & Photography

  • By participating in a Bags at Sea event, all players consent to photography and video recording.
  • Media may be used for promotional purposes across social media, the Bags at Sea website, and marketing materials.
